Lost and found pets

My pet is lost

Check our found pet listings Take a look to see if your pet has already been found or brought to the shelter. If you recognize your pet in one of the listings, call us at (434) 591-0123. Our staff will guide you through the steps to reclaim your pet. When reclaiming your pet, please bring: -A valid photo ID -Proof of ownership (e.g., veterinary records, city/county license, or a clear photo of your pet) -Proof of rabies vaccination A redemption fee is required, which varies based on the number of days your pet has been in our care. If your pet is not listed, please complete the Lost Animal Report below.

Tips for getting the word out Post on Social Media Spread the word quickly by posting on platforms like Facebook, Nextdoor, and Craigslist (Lost & Found section). Be sure to include when and where your pet went missing, a detailed description of your pet and multiple clear photos. Canvas Your Neighborhood Create a flyer for your missing pet at PetBond.com.  Check with your neighbors — ask them to look under decks, in garages and sheds, etc. Use Familiar Scents Place your pet’s bed, blanket, or litter box near the area they escaped. Set out a bowl of water, but avoid putting out food, especially at night — it can attract wildlife and scare your pet away.

Stray hold policy When a found pet shows signs of ownership — such as a collar, harness, ID tag, or microchip — they are held at the FSPCA for 10 days to allow time for the owner to reclaim them. Pets without any visible signs of ownership are held for 5 days. All stray pets are listed on our website as soon as they arrive. They are not available for adoption during their stray hold. Once the hold period ends, they will appear on our Adoptable Pets page.
